| Ontwerp plan grondwatermonitoring Orontes Basin Syrie |
The first phase of the development of the IWRM plan for the Orontes Basin focuses upon the development of a characterization document for the basin. This document will describe characteristics of the basin, and analyze the main issues to be dealt with in the plan.
One of the aims is to create a basis for the further involvement of stakeholder institutions. The main institution in water resources management where it concerns water quantity is the Ministry of Irrigation (MoI) and its regional directorates. The Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Reform, and its regional directorates, represent the sector that is volume wise the largest user of water resources in the basin. The Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, with its regional directorates, is in charge of water quality management, and the Ministry of Housing oversees water supply and sanitation. Also the Ministry of Industry plays a role.
Acacia took responsibility for the description and assessment of monitoring practices and advised on an approach for improvement.
