Ziway-Shalla Basin in Balance - Ethiopia
How can we improve water management in the Rift Valley in Ethiopia? Water management in the Rift Valley is challenging due to the scarce water resources and lack of data needed for developing integrated water resources management strategies.
In the Ziway-Shalla Basin in Balance project, funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Acacia Water aims to tackle this water management issue in collaboration with Rift Valley Lakes Basin Development Office (RVLBDO).
In the past week, our colleagues Maarten Waterloo, Segni Lemessa Tesgera, Sabine Verhagen and Kalkidan Mulugeta have been working with RVLBDO on the installation of a groundwater and surface water monitoring network in the Ziway – Shalla Basin, and a water quality analysis laboratory in the office of RVLBDO. An extensive training was given into the functioning, programming and installation of the equipment.
As the picture shows, the first surface and groundwater stations are now in operation!
