VACANCY FOR A JUNIOR HYDROGEOLOGIST (0,8 – 1,0 fte)
Acacia Water is hiring a junior hydrogeologist to strengthen our project activities both in The Netherlands and abroad. Working competences are related to the sustainable development and management of groundwater resources, with a focus on practical field applications.
The hydrogeologist will become member of the Sustainable Groundwater Business Unit and will be stationed in Gouda, the Netherlands. The successful candidate shall operate in a multi-disciplinary team in international projects providing services to governmental institutions, the private sector, UN organisations and NGOs in the WASH sector, aiming at developing knowledge of the hydrogeological system and deploying this knowledge into practical solutions. It is also foreseen that the hydrogeologist will contribute to innovative projects in the Netherlands for institutional partners and research institutes as well as to the private sector, developing solutions for groundwater quantity and quality concerns.
The role requires availability for traveling abroad to developing countries or field missions across the Netherlands for coordination meetings with clients and stakeholders, as well as hydrogeological and geophysical field surveys, groundwater mapping, validation of desk studies, field work, presentation of results and capacity building activities.
Job responsibilities
Within this position, the junior hydrogeologist is anticipated to take on the following roles:
- Deploy their technical knowledge in the field of hydrogeology to large and complex projects both internationally and in the Netherlands towards the sustainable development of groundwater resources;
- Be acquainted with GIS/RS methods and techniques (or at least interested) to develop desk studies
- Travel abroad for practical field work tasks related to hydrogeology and/or geophysics;
- Capable to deploy traditional methods for better understanding hydrogeological systems, to develop conceptual models, carry out analytical calculations and possibly develop 3D groundwater models;
- Bring expertise and creativity to solve issues related to water scarcity and quality;
- Develop skills on the long term to approach the market and potential new clients and develop potential new (and ongoing) partnerships.
Job requirements
- Between 1-3 years of experience in the field of Hydrogeology and an university degree in the field of Geology or Hydrogeology;
- Good communication skills: excellent in English and Dutch; proficiency in other languages such as Arabic, Spanish, French is a plus;
- Experience working abroad in international projects is a plus;
- You are proactive, like to get things done and are creative in finding solutions for complex projects in a multi-cultural setting;
- Interested in developing a good understanding of field techniques for geophysics;
- You are acquainted with working both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be a team player;
- Available for hydrogeological and/or geophysical related fieldwork abroad.
